I am writing to congratulate you on the fantastic interview with Monty Lyman (May 2025) and his book expressing something that I have long believed.

Given the recent developments in the world of politics/health department, it would be so beneficial if the BPS (perhaps together with the BMC and the Royal College of Psychiatrists) issued a public statement making the government/public aware that mental health is physical, vs physical health is mental health. As the author of the book says, it goes hand in hand.

You just have to look at the education of doctors/psychiatrists vs the education of psychologists to find out that the governments do not see it as equal.

The education of a medical doctor or psychiatrist is integrated, so whilst they study (from Bachelor onwards) they get experience, whereas the education of psychologists is not or at least only once you reach the Clinical Psychology Doctorate Programme, which in itself is almost impossible to get onto.

Once again, thank you for making people aware of these important issues, and I cannot wait to see where this goes next.
