Following our recent survey of faculty members and our annual strategic planning days, we're pleased to feedback on what you have told us you want from the faculty and what the faculty committee have planned for 2025 and beyond.
You said... | We did... |
We found that lots of members were unaware of some of the existing work that the faculty and committee do. | We've worked with the BPS communications team to improve how we'll share the faculty committee's work. This includes making sure our website is regularly updated, increasing our use of social media and launching Circle, our new online platform. |
You want us to continue to organise the Annual Advancing Practice Conference, and for the event to be open to more attendees in the future. | The organisation of our next conference is well underway. Following feedback from this year, the conference in 2025 will be a two-day event in Cardiff with a much larger capacity. You can find the link to register or send a submission here. |
You want us to continue to publish guidance for practitioner psychologists. | We're currently updating all of our guidance that was published over five years ago. This includes the guidance on eligibility assessment, dementia, commissioning and PBS. If you would like to support updating any guidance or lead on writing any new guidance, please get in touch with us. |
You would like us to organise further CPD events outside of our annual conference, and for some of the CPD events to be hosted online. | We will organise two additional CPD days. One will tie in with the launch of the updated dementia guidance. This CPD day will be held in person and hosted jointly with RCPsych. The other CPD day will tie in with the launch of the updated commissioning guidance and will be online. The faculty now has a new online networking platform which replaces the Guild. The platform is called Circle, and we will be offering regular, planned online special interest meetings throughout the year through the platform, so make sure you sign up. |
'Research' was frequently mentioned as a theme for potential activities in the survey results. Although there weren't any specific subjects for research mentioned in the survey feedback, we are keen to explore what the faculty can offer in this area. | We plan to host several online sessions on Circle over the next year, which will focus on research. These will help bring together people who are interested in research and help make collaboration easier. Research studies (in recruitment or publication stage) can be shared on Circle and the faculty committee also has a member who is a research lead. |
You want us to continue to make sure that workforce promotion is a priority. This includes supporting research in this area and supporting the promotion of learning disabilities as a specialty during and post-training. | We have a training and workforce promotion sub-group which lead on this work as a key priority. Work for 2025 and beyond will include:
|
You want us to broaden our scope and be clear to include other practitioner psychologists, not just clinical psychologists, in our activities and communications. | We've updated our website, communications and messaging to reflect this ask. We have three committee member vacancies and have actively encouraged applicants who are non-clinical psychologists to apply as we would like wider representation on the FPID committee. |
Some people told us in the survey that they wanted us to make sure the FPID microsite was being regularly updated. | We've ensured that the FPID microsite is more accessible e.g. that videos are easy to find, all the information including links is up-to-date. A committee member is now responsible for monitoring and updating the FPID microsite, with support from the BPS communications team. |
You want us to continue to publish the Bulletin and promote each edition. You also requested that each edition of the Bulletin is sent directly to members. | We will continue to publish three editions of the Bulletin every year. We've explored ways to disseminate this and will work with communications to ensure the link to the Bulletin is sent to members. This allows us to monitor the number of downloads so we know how many people are accessing it. |
You said that one of the key things that you value about being part of the faculty is the community, network and support you receive from other members. | Our new online network, Circle, will make it easier than ever to collaborate with faculty members. We realise that there is huge amount of inspiring work being undertaken across the Four Nations. We're keen to acknowledge individuals at different stages of their career who are actively engaged in this inspiring work. With this in mind, we are launching the annual FPID Career Awards, with the aim of recognising and sharing some of this great work with a wider audience. You can read more about this here. |
