Results of BPS election 2024 announced

Dr Laura Dean has been announced as the society’s next President-Elect.

03 June 2024

The BPS is pleased to confirm that, following a vote of the society's membership Dr Laura Dean has been elected as President-Elect for 2024-2026.

She will serve two years in the role from our Annual General Meeting in July, before a further two years in the role of President.

The BPS is also delighted to confirm that David Carew has been elected as the society's new Elected Trustee. He will serve a three-year term (2024-2027) on the Board of Trustees.

We'd like to thank all the candidates for putting themselves forward, as well as all those society members who voted.

Dr Laura Dean said:

"I'd like to say thank you to all of those who took the time to vote for me to become the next President-Elect. I am here to represent all of you, regardless of who you voted for.

"I want to work for the good of all BPS members and for the good of the society to make sure that psychologists are valued, and that psychology has the capacity to effect change.

"I'm excited to take on this opportunity and thank you for putting your trust in me with this role."

David Carew added:

"Firstly, I would like to pay tribute to my fellow candidate Stephen Leadbeater. Clearly, by exercising your franchise you see the role of elected trustee as important to ensuring your society is well run, tackles the issues you are concerned about and above all strives to be inclusive, open to different voices and transparent.

"I will do my best to serve you in what are challenging times for societies like the BPS. If we work together there are possibilities for overcoming these challenges. As your elected trustee I look forward to working with you to see what we can achieve together."
