Earlier this year, Reimaging Race in Psychology: Challenging Narratives and Widening Perspectives in Training and Practice by Dr Yetunde Ade-Serrano and Dr Ohemaa Nkansa-Dwamena was published by Routledge.
Over 17 chapters, their book explores subjects including the impacts of systematic racism, the ways that bias can affect diagnosis and the role that intergenerational trauma and adultification plays in the experiences of children and young people. The third part of the book is specifically dedicated to examining psychology practice, and has individual chapters on how psychologists can support black men, women of colour, older adults of colour and black queer men.
While Reimaging Race is a valuable resource for every practicing and in-training psychologist, the book will be hugely beneficial for students and aspiring psychologists, to help make sure their learning and psychology experiences are grounded in a diversity of perspectives.
On the publication of their book, Dr Ade-Serrano and Dr Nkansa-Dwamena said:
"The book challenges entrenched narratives that impede our training and professional practice, broadening the lens through which we understand and work with race and the experience of racism.
"By addressing systemic inequities, expanding training frameworks, and centring the lived realities of marginalised communities, we strive to create a more inclusive, ethical, and empathetic psychological practice".
Reimaging Race in Psychology is now available to buy.
