Providing a mark of quality for professional training in psychology

The new scheme provides assurance that any psychology-related professional training being offered meets rigorous ethical, professional, and practical standards.

The CPD Quality Mark Scheme will help training providers who are looking to make their offer stand out, or trainees looking for the best opportunities to enhance their knowledge, experience or career. 

It aims to strengthen the reputation of individuals, organisations and educational institutions who offer CPD (Continuing Professional Development), as well as attract more learners and delegates. 

Here's what needed Deanne Goddard, National Centre for Eating Disorders, said: 

'The BPS Quality Standard affirms that our training equips psychologists with the specialist skills needed to provide effective, ethical, and impactful care.'

Courses recognised through the CPD Quality Mark Scheme will be included in an online list of approved courses, which is available to almost 60,000 BPS members. In addition, we will highlight suitable courses to enquirers when appropriate; plus, trainers will have the opportunity to propose webinars for delivery in partnership with the BPS.  

The scheme can be applied to courses, workshops, webinars and other mediums, delivered online and/or face-to-face. And once recognised, the training will be eligible to use a 'CPD Quality Mark' logo, along with a statement of recognition. 

The CPD Quality Mark Scheme, which replaces the BPS's previous approach to approvals, assesses CPD activities against the BPS's standards for professional development activities, and covers areas such as: 

• Design and content
• Delivery and resources
• Ethical and professional values
• Entry criteria and registration process
• Ongoing quality assurances

If you are a training provider and want to make your course or workshop stand out, then start your application today. It's easy to apply for the scheme; just complete a form and submit with your supporting evidence. 

The BPS will then assess the application, and let you know if it's successful. Fees for any application are dependent on whether the course or event falls into short length (short training and courses, including webinars, workshops, e-learning), medium length (e.g. multi-day training) or extended (e.g. totalling more than 35 hours of learning time). Your Quality Mark approval will need to be renewed each year to ensure high standards are maintained.
