The aim is for the guidance to provide support and a framework for practitioner psychologists engaging in supervision – an essential part of good practice as a psychologist.

It includes all areas of psychological practice outlining supervision/consultation principles, theories and models to allow informed choice, rather than mandating strict practitioner rules and requirements.

Professor Moira Lafferty, Chair of the Supervision for Psychologists Task and Finish Group said:

"Having guidance for supervision is important so that we have a benchmark starting point for supervisory practice.  It can also serve to highlight areas for CPD and establish a shared baseline across all member networks, which can be shaped to any specific domain requirements."

The guidance is available to download free for members via BPS Explore. BPS members have access to BPS Explore as part of their society membership.
