The funding aims to further upskill the practitioner psychology workforce to meet the growing need for clinical neuropsychologists.
The additional funding will support and pave the way for practitioners to take up the BPS's own qualification in clinical neuropsychology (QiCN), which provides a flexible and bespoke route to the UK's Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN).
Consultant Neuropsychologist in the NHS and lead on the BPS's QiCN, Dr Matthew Jones Chesters, said:
"We welcome the new stream of funding that NHS England (NHSE) has made available for education and training in clinical neuropsychology.
"Clinical neuropsychologists are key providers of care for people with neurological problems, development needs, and long-term conditions and this funding support recognises the immense value of clinical neuropsychology expertise across a wide range of clients and services, both in the NHS and charitable and community organisations.
"The QiCN particularly suits independent, already experienced, and part-time working candidates to make their way into a rich and rewarding profession. We are really pleased that through this opportunity, funding the next step in their career has been made that little easier."
Applicants who are interested in finding out more about the funding for the QiCN are encouraged to contact their regional NHSE workforce lead or Psychological Professions Network (PPN) to learn more about how to apply.
