New developmental programme
The DCP Leadership and Management Faculty is launching a new developmental programme, which is a key part of the DCP's plans to support the development of a workforce with confident and competent leaders in the changing and complex working environments of today.
We know that there is a shortage of accessible pathways of development for our future leaders, and so have created this programme to help fill the gap.
It will cover key areas of knowledge and also, very importantly, connect you to others at a similar career stage which will provide you with networking support as you move forward.
The programme starts in February 2024 with an initial cohort of 20, with the application process now underway.
The cost of the course is being generously subsidised by the DCP for members, so the total fee per person is £300, which includes all elements of the programme except travel and accommodation.
The programme will offer a blend of conceptual, experiential, and reflective learning, which will enable participants to explore and develop their leadership capability with lasting impact.
The curriculum includes a range of relevant leadership models and approaches, and will explore how they can be utilised on the ground.
Dates for the programme have been confirmed as 27-28 February, and 24 April 2024 at the BPS London office.
The programme is designed for DCP members in AfC 8B and 8C roles with current leadership responsibilities across the public, private and third sectors.

NHS workforce wellbeing summit - a legacy networking event
Wellbeing matters to all, but more so for the NHS workforce, including the psychological workforce, who work in a complex and challenging environment.
There is a consistent and worryingly high incidence of mental health problems and stress in the wider NHS workforce. The recently published workforce plan is much welcomed but does not fully provide a robust focus on staff wellbeing.
The DCP Leadership and Management Faculty and New Savoy Conference joint project is a unique initiative to gain a longitudinal picture, UK-wide, of staff wellbeing among psychological professionals. It sets out to raise awareness and reset the balance by challenging this last refuge for stigma.
This wellbeing summit aims to look at how psychological professionals are currently faring in this climate, which is additionally important given they often play a key role in supporting the wellbeing and mental health of others.
Their contribution in supporting NHS and social care staff during the pandemic is widely recognised, so how is their wellbeing, are they feeling supported, and what workplace factors and demands are impacting on them?
Our fear is that unless the issue of occupational wellbeing within the wider NHS, with specific reference to the psychological workforce, is meaningfully addressed, all services will be become unsustainable.
The key aim of this networking event is to generate an open dialogue to work towards a shared vision of strategies going forward.
