The Leadership and Management Faculty would like to invite expressions of interest in paid sessions from an appropriately skilled person to lead on the development of the DCP Mentorship programme.
Every year the Mentorship Programme Website is visited thousands of times and hundreds of our members sign up as mentors or mentees.
The feedback gathered from those who engaged with the last large scale evaluation of the project in 2020 led by Jenny Taylor, Helen Pote and Melissa Stock showed that the programme was highly valued.
Satisfaction was rated as 'extremely helpful' or 'very helpful' by both mentees and mentors.
Mentees reported that leadership skills improved significantly after mentoring (pre-post score comparison, p= .022).
Qualitative feedback provided specific examples of how mentoring improved mentees' skills and contributed to personal and professional development for mentees and mentors in many areas, including leadership.
This role will include helping the programme to:
- Gather and evaluate feedback from Mentors and Mentees
- Respond pro-actively to the BPS governance and assurance framework for Mentorship
- Develop more support materials and events for mentors and mentees to enhance skills and relationships within our rapidly growing mentoring community. It is anticipated that this could include working with bps member services for planning CPD events and updating and developing the current web resources and documents.
- There has been an increase in enquiries from trainees for mentorship – these sessions can start to scope out the costs and benefits of opening up the scheme in this way, the governance required and how such a new development would link in with the governance framework being developed by the BPS steering group.
- Respond to inclusivity and diversity agenda building on links already established with the RISE programme which aims to increase inclusivity and diversity within leadership roles via mentoring.
- Continue to explore plans to address needs for more mentors such as by broadening the pool of mentors – retired, occupational psychologists etc.
- Explore plans to recognise the time commitment of our mentors via free CPD
- The funding allocated is equivalent to X sessions a month for 12 months. The successful candidate would be accountable to the Leadership and Management Faculty Committee via co-chairs Dr Patrick Roycroft and Dr Amra Rao.
The position will be on a contract for services basis for a period of 12 months beginning as soon as is practicable.
