Here's a look at our review from 2024, and how we will continue to represent members moving into 2025 and beyond.

Pre-Qualification Group (PQG) is a special interest group dedicated to supporting aspiring and trainee clinical psychologists. Representing the interests of pre-qualified DCP members, including trainees, assistants, and graduate mental health workers, the PQG engages with various national committees to advocate for their needs and concerns. The group provides essential resources and fosters a supportive community for those pursuing a career in clinical psychology.
Key objectives:
- To cultivate a strong sense of community and facilitate networking opportunities among pre-qualified members
- Organise professional development events and workshops
- Collaborate with relevant organisations to advance the interests of pre-qualified members
- Develop and disseminate valuable resources, including the Alternative Handbook
2024 achievements:
- Working in partnership with the BPS research team to produce the highly successful Alternative Handbook 2024–2025, which received a record number of responses from trainees (44 per cent)
- Hosting a successful Pre-Qualification Group networking event at the DCP Wales Branch Conference. Including financing bursaries and travel expenses to support members attendance
- Facilitating an in-person networking event in the BPS London offices
- Running an online Q&A event for DClinPsy 2025 entry applicants
- Re-launching our monthly newsletter (The Bulletin) to stay connected with members
- Actively promoting vacancies and implementing a targeted recruitment strategy for new committee members.
- Revitalising our social media presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook
- Collaborating with the DCP Minorities subcommittee to support their DClinPsy applications from individuals with protected characteristics
- Partnering with the Clearing House to clarify to disseminate a 2025 application update
- Increasing our committee to over 20 representatives across DCP faculties, nations, and branches to advocate for pre-qualified members and contributing their perspectives to faculty work.
2025 priorities:
- Increase our output of online and in-person events for pre-qualified members across the UK
- Partner with DCP faculties, nations, branches, and subcommittees to co-facilitate events and outputs for members
- Continue to develop a pre-qualified mentorship scheme
- Explore the creation of new resources for members, such as podcasts and blogs
- Deliver the Alternative Handbook 2025–2026
- Establish a Terms of Reference working group to update our committee structure
