The BPS Research Board is delighted to announce that the William Inman Prize is open for applications for 2025. Awarded every five years, the prize was set up in the name of Dr William S. Inman, an ophthalmic surgeon and psychoanalyst, who died in 1968.

The award recognises original published work that focuses on the effects of psychological factors on physical conditions, with a preference for research that focuses on psychodynamic or psychotherapeutics factors and eye conditions.

The winner of the William Inman 2025 prize will receive £2,500 to contribute towards the costs of books and/or equipment to be used in psychological research.

If you need any inspiration to apply for the award, you can take a look at our interview with the winner of the 2020 prize, Dr Lee Jones.

Dr Jones was recognised for his work that explored patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in glaucoma patients. On winning the 2020 award, Dr Jones said "After winning the William Inman Prize I'm feeling very inspired about what opportunities might arise in the future. I'm very familiar with the work of some of the previous recipients of the William Inman Prize, so it's a huge honour to have my work associated with these other fantastic studies."

Visit the award's webpage for more information and a link to this year's nomination form.

The deadline for nominations is 31 August 2025.
