2020 BPS Book Award Winners Announced
Two books, one on the science of the teenage brain, and another on the power of social connection, have won awards at this year’s British Psychological Society Book Awards.

Winning the Popular Science category, Inventing Ourselves: The Secret Life of the Teenage Brain draws upon research carried out by author and neuroscientist Sarah-Jayne Blakemore to explain the common behaviours of adolescents.
Sarah-Jayne Blakemore says:
"Finding out that my book has won this prestigious award has made my year!
It is an honour and I am truly delighted and grateful."
Winning the textbook category, The New Psychology of Health: Unlocking the Social Cure examines the link between social connection, and good physical health.
It was written by British-Australian team, Catherine Haslam, Jolanda Jetten, Tegan Cruwys, Genevieve Dingle and Alexander Haslam.
Catherine Haslam said:

The core message of The New Psychology of Health is that social groups, and the sense of social identity that people derive from them, shape health and well-being in profound ways and have the capacity to constitute a potent 'social cure'.
This means that when groups are harnessed effectively, they are a key resource for health delivery and promotion.
We are excited to accept this award on behalf of the large and growing community of social cure researchers and we see it as a huge vindication of their efforts and achievements."
About the Authors
Sarah-Jayne Blakemore is Professor of Psychology at the University of Cambridge, UK, and leader of the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Group.
Catherine Haslam (PhD) is Professor of Clinical Psychology and a clinical academic at the University of Queensland.
Jolanda Jetten (PhD) is Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Queensland.
Tegan Cruwys (PhD/MClinPsych) is a Senior Research Fellow and Clinical Psychologist at the Australian National University.
Genevieve Dingle (PhD ClinPsych) is a registered Clinical Psychologist and an Associate Professor at the School of Psychology, University of QLD.
Alex Haslam (PhD) is Professor of Psychology and Australian Laureate Fellow at the University of Queensland.
