About
This CPD session aims to provide clinicians with a reflective space to think about how their direct and indirect experiences of trans-people might influence the ways in which they relate to trans-people in their clinical work.
It was developed as a result of the findings in Rob's research exploring Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practitioners beliefs about transgender people, which highlighted the need for trans-specific training for practitioners to enhance knowledge and confidence of working with trans-people.
This workshop will aim to explore the beliefs you have about transgender individuals; providing you with a reflective space, to explore these beliefs and the experiences you have had, both personally and as a clinician, without judgement. During this workshop you will be guided through a number of activities, which will enable you to explore and discuss your beliefs with others.

I am an Assistant Psychologist working in CAMHS, and an Expert by Experience with the DCP. Two years ago, I finished my Undergraduate BSc in psychology. As part of this degree, for my dissertation, I chose to explore beliefs CAMHS clinicians have towards trans-people. I was motivated to explore this subject due to personal experience of knowing many people who identify as transgender.
Their stories and journeys revealed a few things, the main being that they often face unpredictable experiences from healthcare services and clinicians. This gave me the incentive to explore why this may be, and how the healthcare experiences trans-people have can become far more consistent and predictable.
