Join members of the South West branch to hear from two excellent speakers and take part in Q&A about smartphone use in young people.

As society grapples with troubling headlines about online safety for our young people and worsening mental health, join us to hear about the latest research from the University of Cambridge, the University of Birmingham and the University of Exeter:

  • Dr. Luisa Fassi (University of Cambridge) from the Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit will discuss her research on adolescent mental health and technology use.
  • Dr. Victoria Goodyear (University of Birmingham), lead author of the first global study examining school smartphone policies alongside pupil health and educational outcomes. This study, published in The Lancet's Regional Health Europe, found that banning phones in schools alone does not improve grades or wellbeing, highlighting the need for a more holistic approach to reducing smartphone use among adolescents.
  • Dr Shokraneh Moghadam (University of Exeter) will highlight the importance of reducing night-time screen use to promote sleep hygiene behaviours among adolescents.

A great opportunity to hear the latest research and take part in a Q&A.
