Time: 14:00-15:30

Speakers: Clare Byrne + others

At the last meetup we identified that the very first steps of engaging with those we are tasked to support, and creating a base of safety and stability to work from, is often the most challenging part of our work.

And that it doesn't always get the same weight in trainings as other phases. It can be taken for granted as part of our process.

But what about those people who just aren't "ready, willing and able" enough to get a foot in the door? Do we need to be working with the wider system too?

When someone makes it through the door, what can we do to ensure they can sustain their presence over time?

This meetup will be an informal opportunity to share different perspectives, tips, resources, and strategies for addressing this critical but sometimes neglected issue, and an opportunity for those attending to share their own experiences and consider:

  • What has worked for you in the past?
  • What systems and structures do we need to help us work better?
  • How do you help someone who's not in the room with you?
  • How do you promote safety within a session? …within another person?
