About
Our new DOP initiative, PEARL stands for Post-graduate- Early Career- Activity- Research & Learning
This is the second PEARL event and is for everyone currently studying or researching as a post-graduate student in occupational/organisational psychology, or in training (QOP2), along with anyone who has in the last 2 years completed a degree or qualification in occupational psychology.
Within the Occupational Psychology community there is a great deal of interesting and important work being carried out by MSc students, doctoral students, and those on the Stage 2 qualification. Catering for all who are currently studying or researching as a postgraduate student or in training (QOP2) along with anyone who has in the last 2 years completed a degree or qualification in occupational psychology, this webinar provides an opportunity to present your work to your peers and to discuss your career plans in a safe and supportive environment.
Career paths are often non linear within Occupational Psychology, and this event is for everyone who is studying or training in the field, or has recently done so, regardless of where this fits into your life span or overall career journey.
The purpose of the webinar is developmental and aims to help participants acquire skills to enable them to promote themselves, their career, their professional practice and their research. This may include submitting work to conferences, such as the DOP conference, and to peer reviewed journals including the DOP's new periodical, Occupational Psychology Outlook. The webinar will consist of Keynote speakers , academic and practitioner focussed. There will be presentations of postgraduate and/or Stage 2 work and networking opportunities.
Learning outcomes
1. To prepare for your next career stage
2. To learn how better to promote yourself and your work to a wider audience
3. To develop confidence in submitting to and presenting at conferences such as the DOP conference
4. To broaden understanding of the range of work carried out in Occupational Psychology

Speakers
Professor Kamal Birdi
Professor Kamal Birdi is Head of the Institute of Work Psychology at Sheffield University Management School and is also a practicing Occupational Psychologist. He has researched and advised extensively on evaluating and improving the impact of employee training and development interventions, developing employee creativity and assessing the influences on organisational innovation. Kamal is a keen advocate of translating Occupational Psychology research into practice. In the area of training, he developed the TOTADO (Taxonomy of Training and Development Outcomes) evaluation framework to help organisations more systematically assess the impact of learning interventions at different levels. He has also created the research-based CLEAR IDEAS (CI) innovation development model as a means of improving the creative generation and implementation of ideas at work. Hundreds of organisations from the public, private and third sectors in the UK and abroad have now taken part in CI training workshops and events to produce creative solutions to the complex challenges facing them. He has published widely on workplace creativity, innovation and learning topics and was given the BPS DOP Academic Contribution to Practice Award in 2010 for his efforts to improve organisational practice.
