Dr. Siaqa Naz.
The perils of delivering culturally sensitive psychotherapies to ethnic minority communities- Are we helping or harming?
In this talk, Dr. Naz will discuss the latest research and thinking about helping ethnic minority communities. She will provide the audience with the opportunity to discuss barriers to delivering culturally sensitive care and share some ways in which psychotherapy is delivered and the systems in which it sits.
About the speaker:
Dr. Saiqa Naz is a renowned Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) specialist, celebrated for her commitment to mental health equity and tackling systemic barriers in mental health services and psychological therapies professions. With a diverse professional background, Dr. Naz is a leading advocate for marginalised communities in healthcare.
She is completing research exploring ethnic minority communities experiences of seeking help in NHS Talking Therapies (previously IAPT) services.
She has recently completed her term as president of BABCP, and successfully helped the association become a White Ribbon Supporter to highlight Violence Against Women whilst also achieving registration with the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Saiqa Co-authored a key guide, commissioned by NHS England, to support clinicians in implementing best practices for ethnic minority communities and then spent five years supporting its voluntary implementation across mental health services.
