Question 1

The Elected Trustee will be a member of our Board of Trustees, which is the overall governing body of the society. Please outline any leadership, organisational and/or governance experience that would help you carry out this role.

I have led numerous projects and teams across various sectors sport, education business, demonstrating an ability to inspire, motivate, and guide others toward achieving common goals.

My collaborative approach ensures that diverse perspectives are valued, fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation.

My leadership style is characterized by clear communication, strategic thinking, and a results-oriented mindset, all of which will be instrumental in a role as a Trustee.

Question 2

The BPS’s vision is to promote inclusivity and diversity. How do you see this as impacting the society’s work?

By prioritizing inclusivity and diversity, the BPS can ensure that psychological research and practice are representative of all societal groups.

It's important to break down barriers and create opportunities for underrepresented voices to be heard.

This focus not only strengthens the credibility and relevance of the society's work but also contributes to a more equitable and compassionate society, where individuals from all backgrounds can thrive and access support tailored to their unique needs.

Question 3

The BPS aims to create a vibrant member-centred community with a meaningful membership identity. What do you see as the Elected Trustee’s role in this?

I bring a wealth of experience in fostering growth and collaboration within organisations.

My approach aligns with the British Psychological Society's (BPS) mission to cultivate a dynamic, member-focused community with a strong sense of belonging.

As an Elected Trustee, the role would involve actively listening to the needs and aspirations of the members, ensuring their voices are represented in the society's strategic decisions.

By promoting inclusivity, engagement, and professional development opportunities, the Trustee can help strengthen the community's identity and create meaningful connections among its members, ultimately driving the BPS towards achieving its goals.

How long have you known the candidate?

Seven years.

When have you worked with the candidate or come into contact with them?

I met Jim in November 2018, when he joined the Northwest of England Branch (NWB) committee.

I have known him for seven years (I am Co-Chair of the Northwest of England Branch).

As, a committee member, colleague, and good friend and have worked with him on many BPS projects.

Why do you think the candidate would make a great trustee?

I wholeheartedly recommend Jim Petruzzi as a BPS trustee, and I cannot think of a better candidate.

Jim is the BPS Northwest of England Branch Chair. I have nominated him for president-elect of the BPS before.

He is a brilliant organiser and Communications Officer. He has created and managed excellent Psychology in the Pub (now Community) and City events, procuring exciting speakers and increasing community engagement.

He has the creativity and energy to evolve the BPS, bringing ideas, approachability, communication, transformational leadership, caring, and warmth to create maximum change and improve psychology, society, and people's lives.

As a trustee, I believe that Jim is the perfect person to uplift the BPS and bring a return in engagement, collaboration, and excitement, being the one to ensure a fresh new surge in membership!
