Early Career Study Visit Scheme
This Grant allows early career researchers and lecturers within eight years of completing their doctoral research degree in psychology, to complete a study visit to another institution.
These visits unlock new research and lecturing skills for researchers, while supporting them in forging a future career path.
Grants available to support a visit of a maximum of six weeks:
- Up to £500 to visit an institution in the UK
- Up to £800 to visit an institution in Europe
- Up to £1,200 to visit an institution elsewhere in the world
Scheme open date: 08 April 2024
Scheme close date: 09 June 2024
Eligibility
- You need to be at least a Graduate Member of the Society.
- You should be employed at a UK institution as a researcher/lecturer
- You need to be within eight years of the completion of your Doctoral research degree in Psychology

Additional Information Required
- A summary of the proposed visit
- A supporting statement from your Head of Department
- A supporting statement, in the form of a letter, from the proposed host institution
- A copy of your current CV
- As the grant holder, you will be fully responsible for the use of the funds and for making the practical arrangements for the visit. As part of the conditions of the award, you should let us know the exact date of the visit once you have finalised all arrangements.
End of Grant Report
You must send us an end of grant report and financial statement no more than 1 month after the visit. Further applications for funding from the Society will not normally be accepted if your end of grant report is still awaited outside of the 1 month due date.
Please note:
- The scheme does not cover conference attendance or the presentation of conference papers.
- We are unable to consider retrospective applications, i.e. for visits prior to the closing date.
- You should aim to claim the grant within 12 months of the date of the award. If you require an extension to the duration of the award, please send a request for the attention of the Chair of the Board.
Conflicts of Interest
You must declare all personal and professional conflicts of interest e.g. if applying with a spouse/partner or other relation. A conflict of interest will not prevent acceptance of the application, but will be borne in mind by the awarding panel when considering the grant. If we become aware of a conflict of interest that you have not declared, we will have to withdraw your application.
