The processes for how candidates are elected or appointed to these three roles are all quite different, so this month I thought it would be useful to give you some further insight into what these roles look like and how members have the opportunity to get involved.
The elected trustee role that is currently open for nominations is open to all eligible members, with the successful candidate joining the Board of Trustees following an election later this year.
They will join the board and help in its key functions, including ensuring we comply with our Royal Charter, statutes and rules, working closely with myself and our senior leadership team, and keeping a focus on the society's long-term sustainability.
Nominations for this role are open until 28 May, with candidates needing to be proposed by two fellow eligible members.
The chair role for our Senate is also open this year, but this is only open to current members of the Senate – the group which represents our member networks and is made up of network chairs and co-opted members.
Current Senate members have been invited to put themselves forward for the chair position, with Senate members then having the opportunity to vote for their favoured candidate.
The final role that is open this year is chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Board. Eligible members are invited to apply to this role up until 11 June, with a successful candidate being appointed by our Governance, Board Effectiveness and Nominations Sub-committee later this year.
The chair of the EDI Board will provide strategic leadership on matters relating to equality, diversity and inclusion, and work to ensure that EDI is embedded in our governance, member engagement, and all our work.
All three of the successful candidates for these roles will sit on our Board of Trustees, working closely with our senior leadership team to deliver for our community of psychologists.
If you're interested in one of the roles, we'd love to hear from you. More information on the application process, deadlines, and the commitments that the positions require is available on our elections page.
