The aim of this article is to show how the psychology of affect — specifically anxiety and depression — can help us understand strategic decision making in organisations. This is an important phenomenon, as strategic management involves developing the long-term direction and objectives of the entire organisation (Johnson & Scholes, 1993; Hickson et al., 1986).
