Welcoming the national rollout of the Infected Blood Psychological Service for the victims of the contaminated blood scandal, President of the British Psychological Society Dr Roman Raczka said:
"The psychological trauma experienced by those affected by the contaminated blood scandal should not be underestimated. To have your life severely affected through no fault of your own, can lead to profound and long-lasting emotional distress. This not only affects victims directly impacted, but also their families and loved ones.
"It is therefore really encouraging that everyone affected, including those who helped co-design this new service, can now self-refer for psychological support wherever they are in England. This new initiative will go a long way to ensuring individuals, families and groups can access support in a timely manner and before they reach crisis point."
