How to get your research published

About this webinar

The prospect and challenge of publishing research can often be a daunting and overwhelming one.

This webinar will demystify the process and give participants an understanding of the process and how to get research of many tens of thousands of words to the required length for an academic journal.

This webinar will consider;

• Reasons for disseminating thesis and psychological research (Why should I bother?)
• Key principles and sources of advice in preparing journal articles for submission (How do I do it?)
• Potential challenges this presents (What happens?)

This webinar will be recorded. The recording will be available for 12 weeks after the live session.

Learning outcomes

• Explain the importance of dissemination and publication of research. How to prepare a research article for publication, and what the process is like, and what happens
• Explain how to submit a paper for publication in a psychological journal
• Have an appreciation of the size and scope of the task
• Understand and explain how to prepare a thesis to the required length for a journal publication

Is this course right for me?

This webinar is predominantly suitable for post-graduate psychology students who are interested in learning more about getting their research published, or those involved in supervision research and considering publication and co-authorship. 

It is expected that attendees will have undertaken research at a masters/doctorate level and planning publication.

Webinar presenters

Dr Gavin Morgan

Dr Morgan is an Educational Psychologist at University College London, where he is an Assistant Professor across the DECPsy Professional Doctorate, and the CPD DEdPsy Doctorate, he has been in post at UCL since 2008.

He has a specialism for qualitative research methods at UCL.Dr Morgan also has a role of Senior Educational Psychologist in Northamptonshire where he has been since 2017; previously Dr Morgan was a Senior Educational Psychologist in Cambridgeshire, for over 12 years.

He has a Doctorate in Educational Psychology, and an MEd in Professional Training in Educational Psychology both from the University of Bristol; a PGCE from the University of Leicester, and a BSc (Hons) Psychology. He has worked as an Educational Psychologist with local authorities since 1999, prior to this, he was a school-teacher. 

Dr Morgan is the sole or joint author of a number of articles in professional journals, and has presented his research at a number of professional conferences. He is currently the chair of the British Psychological Society's Division of Educational and Child Psychology, and has been an elected committee member for the past decade; having also been chair in 2019. 

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Morgan has been a member of SPi-B (the Scientific Pandemic Insights Group on Behaviour), advising the Government on issues relating to education, psychology and implications for child development and mental health.
