Joanne Claire Ablett

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, working for Salford Royal Hospital within the Clinical Health Psychology service. I have been working full-time with people with physical health difficulties since October 2010. Previously, I worked for 8 years within Adult Learning Disability Services, both Social Care and Psychology, in Lincolnshire, prior to DClinPsy Training at The University of Leicester.
In my NHS role, I lead the rapidly developing Gastro-Intestinal Psychology Service as part of the Clinical Psychology team at Salford Royal. This involves psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and review, along with consultation with the MDT, joint working, training, teaching, management of other Clinical Psychologists and clinical supervision. I specialise in providing psychological support to adults suffering with intestinal failure, working with both in and out patients, as part of the internationally recognised Specialist Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford Royal Hospital.
Before specialising within the intestinal failure team, I worked with individuals suffering from a wide range of health conditions, including chronic fatigue syndrome, cardiac, renal, oncology, dermatology and various chronic pain conditions. I have experience working with trauma and PTSD.
I work in an integrated way, tailoring my approach to an individuals needs, strengths and preferences. The different approaches which I use include CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Systemic and Mindfulness based approaches. I am also trained in clinical hypnotherapy, which can be useful for a range of difficulties.
I have a depth of experience working within Learning Disability and Autism Services prior to my role in physical health.
I work primarily in the NHS, but am available for private referrals or medico legal work, with a growing range of expert witness experience.
