BPS Assessments and Awards - Independent Panel Member
BPS Assessments and Awards Limited (BPSAA), an approved end-point assessment organisation (EPAO) wholly owned by The BPS, are seeking an independent panel member to assist in decision making as part of an appeals panel.
The appeal panel
This is a part time paid position, as an estimate it may involve approximately 10-20 hours per year.
It is recognised that applicants may need to work around other commitments and this can be discussed at interview and when appeals arise.
The appeals panel convene to consider the findings and recommendations made in connection with appeals against end-point assessment decisions and/or appeals regarding malpractice or maladministration.
The appeals process is designed to be equitable and transparent and the inclusion of an independent panel member is essential in order to ensure objectivity.
The role of Independent Panel Member
The independent appeals panel member is a critical role in supporting the decision as part of a panel.
Having members of the panel who have no connection to BPSAA or the individuals making an appeal is critical to the operations of the EPAO.
The role will support the discussion and deliberation of the appeals panel, in order to uphold, reject or reject with recommendations, having considered, discussed and judged appeal hearings.
The Independent panel member will be required to consider reports which detail how and why decisions were made, what the key factors were that influenced the decision and how the relevant criteria were applied in reaching the decision.
Skills and expertise
- Experience of panel meetings or hearings and associated procedures.
- Ability to think critically and objectively
- Knowledge of regulation and conditions for appeals
- Experience of key decision making
- Excellent communication skills
- Have experience of navigating complex situations
