Society member awarded PhD Supervisor of the Year

02 August 2019

Chartered member Dr David Fletcher has been named PhD Supervisor of the Year at the 2019 Postgrad Awards.

He was one of 140 academics from across the country nominated in this category.

The judges praised his innovative approach to supporting students and commitment to creating employment opportunities.

Current and former PhD students praised Dr Fletcher for his support. He has encouraged them to present at international conferences, mentored them into getting their desired jobs and held sessions to help them improve their writing skills.

The students also remarked that he is supportive pastorally as well as academically.

Dr Fletcher is senior lecturer in sport and performance psychology at Loughborough University and director of its postgraduate taught studies and research degree programmes for sport performance.

He said:

“It’s humbling to win this award, particularly because it’s on behalf of PhD students and peers.

“Supervising PhD students is one of the best parts of my job and I’m fortunate that Loughborough University has created a research environment that enables students and supervisors alike to thrive.”

The Postgrad Awards are made by the websites FindAMasters and FindaPhD.
