The latest issue from the British Journal of Developmental Psychology will be freely available online until 31 July 2018.
It is a special issue devoted to research into the development of mathematical cognition.
In her editorial, Dr Victoria Simms from Ulster University says:
We are constantly reminded that we know substantially less about the development of mathematical skills than we do about reading. There has been a recent surge in research on mathematical development, perhaps due to both the theoretical importance of understanding mathematical thought, but also because of the applied importance of this work to inform teaching policy and practice.
The papers in the issue fall into four themes:
The studies included in the issue contain samples of children ranging in age from 5 to 13 years old.
Dr Simms says:
"This provides excellent information that will increase our understanding of development in this age range and inform pedagogy."
