Psychological wellbeing in the approach to a new school day

18 August 2020

On 23 March 2020, schools and nurseries closed, to the majority of pupils, in Northern Ireland due to the implementation of lockdown restrictions brought on by the global pandemic of Covid-19.

It has been announced that schools will start to reopen from 24 August 2020 for certain year groups and for those considered vulnerable and for the rest of pupils from 31 August.

This paper, devised by the Division of Educational and Child Psychology Northern Ireland Branch, is proposed to outline how stress can affect the brain and our ability to learn, and provide practical, psychological advice to support all adults and children to re-integrate into a new school day.
