Dr Tony Wainwright, a past chair of our Ethics Committee, has been honoured at the European Congress of Psychology in Moscow for his contribution to bringing European psychologists together.
Dr Wainwright received the Robert A. Roe Award, named after a former president of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA).
In its citation, the award’s selection committee listed Dr Wainwright’s work for the BPS and his concern for global wellbeing and the environment among the reasons for its choice.
Dr Wainwright said:
“I would like to thank the EFPA for giving me the Robert Roe Award for 2019. It is particularly special as I have always been a great admirer of his vision for how psychology can address real world problems and what its future focus should be.
In my lecture I developed some of his ideas concerning psychology and power and what he described as ‘a significant and growing mismatch between what psychology can offer and the needs of society’.”
He gave his award presentation via the internet and you can watch a screencast of it.
