Consultation on revised draft standards for the accreditation of applied psychology training programmes for associate psychologists

22 August 2019

The society is pleased to invite your comments on the revised draft accreditation standards for the accreditation of applied psychology training programmes for associate psychologists.

Please note: this consultation deals with the draft accreditation standards.

These standards have only been piloted previously and have since been revised.

This consultation will confirm any further revisions to be made prior to their launch.

The pilot of the Associate Psychologist accreditation standards concentrated on training developments within the clinical workforce and so the accreditation standards predominantly focus on clinically-driven applied psychology programmes.

Therefore the language to articulate the specific knowledge and skills required of an associate psychologist may be more closely aligned to work within the clinical and health domains at pre-registration level.

A briefing document providing some background to the development of the proposed accreditation standards is available below:

We are also inviting providers to indicate whether they are involved in the delivery of any programmes that may be eligible for accreditation or those who might wish to develop current or new provision that may be eligible for accreditation in the future.

This consultation is open to Heads of Department, colleagues involved in delivering postgraduate provision accredited by the Society, Training Committees, education providers and employers who have assistant psychologists as part of their applied workforce.

The consultation is open until 27 September 2019 and we would strongly encourage you to participate.
