The British Psychological Society (BPS) welcomes the appointment of its member Professor Siobhan O’Neill as interim mental health champion in Northern Ireland.
Dr Karen Hagan, chair of the BPS Northern Ireland branch, said:
“We are delighted that Professor Siobhan O’Neill has been appointed to this vital role in Northern Ireland, where the focus on mental health has been highlighted as a government priority, both during the pandemic and beyond.
Siobhan has been a member of BPS for many years, having completed a degree in psychology at the Queen's University of Belfast and a Master's in Health Psychology at NUI Galway.
On behalf of the BPS, I would like to congratulate Siobhan on her appointment to this important position, which presents the opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of people who struggle with their mental health.
We look forward to Siobhan holding the NI Executive to account and ensuring that prioritisation is given to mental health and wellbeing, as well as ensuring mental health is embedded within the policies and practices of government.”
