BPS RRM UpdateShow content
It is 12 months since the Faculty of Oncology and Palliative Care launched the document:
- Guidelines for the Role of Practitioner Psychologists in the Assessment and Support of Women Considering Risk-Reducing Breast Surgery
We have been delighted that the document has been accessed and downloaded more than 700 times since publication. We have been collecting feedback from the launch conference in Bristol and since the event and are sending you an update of some of the main themes and concerns we have received.
Information for Patients
A number of people at the conference highlighted the importance of giving good information to women about what they might expect from a Psychologist offering an appointment to discuss risk-reducing mastectomy and highlighted the importance of reducing the misconceptions that can be associated with the process. For example Psychologists have reported that women still see it as being ‘just a tick box exercise’ or that it was a fearful exercise. We were pleased that the document has helped to iron out some of those concerns and that teams are working on developing their own information leaflets in response to the document.
