Chair of the Presidential Taskforce on Diversity and Inclusion

The Board of Trustees of the Society is strongly committed to increasing diversity and inclusion in the society itself and also the wider profession and discipline of psychology.

In December 2019 the Board approved the terms of reference for a Presidential Taskforce to develop and oversee initial implementation of an action plan to address three key objectives;

  1. To make the BPS a welcoming place for members from minoritised/marginalised groups, and to promote their engagement at every level of the society.
  2. To promote diversity and inclusion within the profession and discipline of psychology through increasing entry of under-represented groups and ensuring that training reflects diversity and meets the needs of diverse groups.
  3. To advise on the most effective form and function of a permanent body, reporting to the Board of Trustees, to monitor and advise the Board on issues relating to equity, diversity and inclusion issues at the end of the lifespan of the taskforce.

The 12 taskforce members have now been recruited and met once, however, the originally appointed Chair, Professor Binna Kandola, has unfortunately had to step down from the role due to other demands, we are therefore seeking to make a new appointment to this role.

This role presents a unique opportunity to work with a committed and diverse group of taskforce members, and engage members and wider stakeholders in making the BPS a significantly more diverse and inclusive organisation and to help contribute to increasing diversity in the profession and discipline of psychology.

The expected duration of the taskforce is 18 months.
