This webinar will offer practical tools to help you explore, enhance and express your own creativity and apply helpful tools and activities to use with your own clients, and those you support whether as a trainer/coach, mentor or leader.

Part of a successful creative process is breaking down the psychological barriers people carry towards their creativity.  When applied to business it then involves recognising the difference between creativity and innovation – and being able to offer both; and creativity can be learned – which not only benefits our problem solving skills, but it is of course a wonderful form of self-expression.

This webinar will cover:

  1. The reasons why we believe ourselves to not be creative
  2. The fears we may hold about expressing creativity
  3. Ways we can improve our creativity personally, and how that can be applied to our work
  4. The difference between creativity and innovation and why it matters
  5. The benefits of creativity for problem solving (including how it can help us with ‘insight problems’ and ‘non-insight problems’).

This is a personal development session for anyone who wants to take some time for themselves to engage in personal development and reflective work. There will be very practical tools and exercises which can be used and for any participants who are delivering training in this area themselves.

The practical exercises can be helpful to gain an insight into the client's perspective without the need for them to raise the topic or have a conversation directly about it which can be challenging, especially at the start of a professional relationship.  As such if you like the practical exercises because of what they reveal about your own thought process or feelings, similar insights can be gained through using them in your own practice and not just for your own personal growth.

Target audience

We all can do with a bit of personal development, so this is aimed at anyone who:

  1. Wants to take some time for personal development across all career levels
  2. Would like some practical tools to add to their own practice as a potential shortcut to insight with clients
  3. Would like some practical tools if they are developing training for corporate clients, those working in HR and organisations whether as a trainer/coach, mentor or leader - and those delivering psychometrics.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify the reasons why we believe ourselves to not be creative and the fears we may hold about expressing creativity
  2. Practice ways in which we can improve our creativity personally, and discuss how to utilise those tools in our work
  3. Explain the difference between creativity and innovation and why it matters
  4. Discuss types of innovation and their effect in our field of work
  5. Explore how mindfulness can help creativity which in turn can help problem solving (including how it can help us with ‘insight problems’ and ‘non-insight’ problems”)
  6. Work through a series of exercises that can be used in your own practice either as a way to get clients to respond and thus offer insights into their thinking outside the counselling session or be able to include them as tools to help clients understand concepts when delivering to corporate teams/reflecting on psychometric findings.

Participants will be provided with a workbook prior to the webinar. The workbook will be accessible in your ‘resources tile’ on BPS Learn two weeks prior to the webinar. The workbook will be used in the webinar session.
