This is an interactive webinar for a small group in which attendees will be able to see, hear, and interact with other attendees.

The event content includes:

  • The History and Purpose of Prescribing: critical issues for Counselling Psychologists and implications for therapy
  • Essential knowledge of 'mainstream' drugs and new drugs on the horizon
  • Collaborative working with clients and their drug prescriber.

Learning outcomes

1. Knowledge of when and how prescribed psychiatric drugs might impact on clients and therapy

2. Identify the medical model underpinning drug prescribing and models which challenge this

3. Reflect on your own experiences and beliefs regarding prescribed drugs

4. Learn how to support clients taking or withdrawing from prescribed psychiatric drugs

5. Have more confidence when in liaison with prescribers and other medical specialists

Speakers -

Susan van Scoyoc is a Chartered Psychologist, an HCPC registered counselling psychologist and health psychologist and a founder member of the Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy. She currently works part time in independent practice, offers supervision and provides training on a number of subjects. She has worked within the NHS and taught on doctoral counselling psychology courses. Susan is a past Chair of DCoP and is currently DCoP Neuropsychology Lead.
