“Progress is impossible without change” George Bernard Shaw Psychological therapy may have many specific goals, but some kind of change in behaviour is generally involved (e.g., finding new ways of interacting with others, of dealing with difficult memories, thoughts and feelings, or adopting new and more beneficial habits).

Yet – as we have all experienced personally as well as professionally – knowing what change we want to make is not always sufficient.

Many factors external and internal can show up and get in the way.

This study day will examine how approaches from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can be used to increase the chances of effective change in a variety of settings.

In focusing on this application, we won’t aim to provide a general introduction to the model, but the day will still be useful to those new to this approach (watch a 20-minute overview of the model).

“Mae cynnydd yn amhosibl heb newid” George Bernard Shaw Gall fod nifer o nodau penodol i therapi seicolegol, ond fel arfer mae’n golygu rhyw newid mewn ymddygiad (e.e. canfod ffyrdd newydd o ryngweithio ag eraill, o ddelio ag atgofion, meddyliau a theimladau anodd, neu fabwysiadu arferion newydd a mwy buddiol).

Eto – fel rydym i gyd wedi profi yn bersonol fel yn broffesiynol – nid yw gwybod pa newid rydym am ei wneud yn ddigon bob amser.

Gall llawer o ffactorau, allanol a mewnol, godi’u pennau a mynd yn y ffordd.

Bydd y diwrnod astudio hwn yn archwilio sut gall agweddau o Therapi Derbyn ac Ymrwymo gael eu defnyddio i gynyddu’r posibiliadau o newid effeithiol mewn amrywiaeth o sefyllfaoedd.

Wrth ganolbwyntio ar y defnydd hwn, ni fyddaf yn ceisio rhoi cyflwyniad cyffredinol i’r model, ond bydd y diwrnod yn dal yn ddefnyddiol i’r rheiny sy’n newydd i’r dull hwn (mae trosolwg 20 munud o’r model yma a allai fod o gymorth).
