09 -11 January 2019, Crowne Plaza, Chester
Below you will find additional opportunities for you to get involved with at the Annual Conference 2019.
We anticipate around 400 delegates attending over the three days of the conference. The Careers Forum provides an ideal opportunity to showcase the work of your organisation to an audience keen to learn more about your business.
Careers Forum Format
The Careers Forum will take place during the conference on Thursday 10 January at 11.35. As part of the Careers Forum you will give a 5 minute presentation about your organisation, current and future employment opportunities and your own personal career experiences or that of your colleagues. Organisations taking part in the Careers Forum are also asked to bring along their job advert/s that can be displayed on our ‘jobs’ board.
During the second half of the Careers Forum you can further engage with our delegates regarding work opportunities on a one-to-one basis. This opportunity is at no cost to you, we value your contribution so if you can take part please complete this short survey and you will be contacted by our Conference Committee who will facilitate the forum.
Closing date: 30 November 2018
Call for Chairs
We are looking to recruit a pool of Session Chairs to help make the conference run as smoothly as possible. Chairing gives you the opportunity to support your profession and meet the speakers presenting on a more personal level. For full details of what chairing involves, please see the Chairs Terms of Reference.
If you are interested, we ask you to select a stream or 2 rather than individual papers as this improves cohesion. To select your preferred stream(s), see the Chairing Timetable (last updated 03/01/19, 10:52) for available streams and then email Simon Toms* with your choice
*By emailing Simon you are sharing your contact details with the DOP conference committee (volunteers from the Society's membership who are involved in organising the conference). Your details will not be shared with journalists or other outside bodies without your approval.
Our Ambassador programme is an easy and effective way for delegates to gain access to the networking communities that are such an important part of the conference experience.
This programme is for any delegate who wants to expand their professional network with introductions to influential players in the industry.
We will match delegates with Conference Ambassadors, who will introduce Ambassadees to their network. The programme has been specially designed to make sure each delegate feels welcomed to the conference and able to make those vital contacts with others at the conference who have shared interests.
An Ambassadee is:Show content
- A first time DOP conference attendee or someone who has attended before and wants to expand their network
- Somone who is motivated t make the most of their conference experience, committeed to communicating and meeting with their Ambassador, and appreciative of the time that Ambassador devotes to them
An Ambassador is:Show content
- A DOP professional member interested in helping other DOP conference attendees make the most out of their experience
- Somone who can explain how to get more involved in DOP (e.g. joining committees; submitting proposals for the DOP conference; participating in social events, etc.)
Participation as an Ambassador involves only minimal effort, including the following:
- Connect with the Ambassadee (you may have up to 3) at least once prior to the annual conference via e-mail or phone
- Meet with the Ambassadee at least once on-site at the conference (coffee, a drink, whatever you prefer)
- Help the Ambassadee network at the conference by introducing him or her to some of your colleagues
New to the UK? The DOP welcomes our international guests.
The DOP's International Delegate Buddy System will make you feel very welcome. If you are an overseas delegate, the DOP has a dedicated international liaison who will provide you with useful visitor information, organise for you to meet other delegates and pair you with a UK buddy.
Christina Montaiuti, International and Ambassador Programmes' Chair
During this time of widespread political division, at the 2019 DOP Annual Conference we seek inclusion by embracing International delegates and themes.
By making sure it's 'International' delegates are properly welcomed and involved, our aim is to help you truly be part of the DOP community. We therefore invite International delegates (whether a UK delegate living abroad, or a non-UK delegate living anywhere in the world) to join our International Programme with a welcome session on Wednesday 9 January at 12 noon in the bar/lounge area. We would also like to invite you to attend our round table discussion on Wednesday 9 January in the Dance Studio, where a range of speakers with extensive international experience will share know-hows and special insights. They will answer questions about working internationally with a UK psychology degree, and/or about working in the UK with an international degree in psychology.
If any delegate, whether local or International, wishes to make new professional connections amongst the 2019 DOP conference delegates, or if you just want to expand your network, please join the Ambassador Programme, where a senior DOP member will introduce you to senior DOP representatives with shared interests.
