This webinar will introduce the application of Social Identity Approach to Leadership in organisations. The webinar will start with a discussion between the presenters as they introduce the principles of Social Identity Leadership, the 5R leadership development programme, and how to apply this approach in organisations. The webinar will then conclude with a Q&A session between the delegates and the presenters.
This is an entry-level webinar aimed at trainee and qualified psychologists (occupational, sport and exercise, military) with either no or limited understanding of SIL. The workshop will be valuable to those undergoing QSEP, postgraduate students, and qualified psychologists who are not trained in SIL.
The attendees are expected to learn:
1. Will be able to explain the principles of Social Identity Leadership (SIL) and the 5R leadership development programme.
2. Delegates will be able to describe how to apply SIL using the 5R process within an organisational setting.
Wing Commander Craig White is being sponsored by the RAF to undertake a full-time PhD, at Loughborough University, examining the impact of social identity leadership on resilience within the RAF. For his final study, he has designed and developed a ‘Leading for Resilience’ programme based on the 5R process, which will be tested with a range of RAF teams. Craig is a Training Officer who has served in the RAF for over 20 years in a variety of training and education roles, including deploying to Afghanistan to serve as Chief Afghan National Police within Headquarters Regional Support Command (South).
Dr Jamie Barker CPsychol CSci AFBPsS is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University, a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council. Dr Barker has an international research profile with research interests centred on applied sport and performance psychology including group dynamics, leadership, and resilience. As a consultant Jamie has over 20 years of experience working in business, professional sport, and the military working with Sony Europe, Sony Mobile, Impact International, the Football Association, the England and Wales Cricket Board, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Great Britain Rowing, and the RAF.
Dr Matthew Slater CPsychol is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology, a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, and an internationally recognised researcher. Matt’s expertise centre on the psychology leadership and team functioning, and the application of psychological skills to optimise performance. Matt has published 20+ peer-reviewed papers, a book, 6 book chapters, and regularly speaks at international and national conferences. Matt has worked with a range of elite sport teams, the RAF, and has delivered on his research and practice at the NEOMA Business School in Paris. His research has received international public reach through the media.
