Webinar: the psychological needs of healthcare staff

22 April 2020

In light of the situation that healthcare staff now find themselves in, BPS president David Murphy and lead clinician Julie Highfield (consultant psychologist ICU Cardiff) conducted a webinar to address some of the thinking and frameworks around the current psychological landscape for health workers.

The BPS has also highlighted the immediate need to care for the psychological welfare of healthcare workers with the release of a guidance document aimed at healthcare managers, as well as healthcare staff.

The document offers recommendations for each phase from ‘preparation’ to the eventual ‘recovery ‘phase and highlights approaches to psychological welfare that will help to deal with how healthcare staff on the frontline are personally affected by the harsh consequences of caring for patients and their families with Covid-19.
