Call for submissions

The Cognitive Psychology Bulletin aims to provide a forum for the dissemination of research papers and research reviews as well as provide a channel for news and information about people, events and publications that may be of interest to the cognitive psychology community.

We are interested in receiving submissions on any aspect of Cognition (theoretical or applied) or closely related areas, but would particularly welcome submissions aligned with this year’s conference themes:

  • Face Processing & Perception
  • Attention & Cognitive Control
  • Working Memory
  • Reading & Dyslexia
  • Language Processing
  • Learning & Memory
  • Decision Making & Higher Cognitive Processes
  • Replication, Meta-Analysis, Open Science
  • Applied Cognition

We publish submissions of the following types 

  • Theoretical or Review Articles (max approx. 3000 words, exc refs)
  • Conference Reviews (max approx. 1000 words, exc refs)  
  • Book or other media reviews (300-500 words)
  • Opinion pieces about current issues in Cognitive Psychology and HE (1000 words, exc refs)  
  • Contributions to our Postgraduate Column (800 - 1700 words, exc refs)  

All submissions should be prepared using BPS publications guidelines and should include 3- 5 key words. The final submission date for editorial purposes will be Friday 29th October 2021. The publication date will be at the end of January 2022. However earlier submission is most welcome.

Information for contributors

Theoretical Articles & Review Articles

Theoretical articles and Review articles should be no longer than 3000 words, plus references. Papers should be prepared according to APA guidelines.

Conference Reviews

We would like to publish reviews of conferences related to Cognitive Psychology that would be of interest to the UK cognitive psychology community. Conference reviews should be no longer than 1,000 words.

Book Reviews

Book reviews can be anything from 100 to 800 words, but in general tend to be in the range of 300-500 words.

Postgraduate Column

Are you a PG in the field of cognitive psychology who wants to comment on a specific research area and/or the experience of postgraduate study in cognitive psychology?

We are looking for a either short (800 word) pieces that raise particular issues or longer review pieces (up to 1700 words plus references).

Opinion pieces

Opinion pieces should be a maximum of 1,000 words and should relate to current issues surrounding cognitive psychology and higher education.

Hard copy subscriptions are not available for this publication. Single issues are available for purchase in pdf format via the BPS Shop online. 

Members of the Cognitive Psychology Section can download copies of the bulletin for free.
