Message from the President
We are the leading learned society and professional body in the UK for psychologists. As the second largest psychological society worldwide, we look forward to welcoming our 50,000th member in the near future.
We have an international reputation for advancing the science and practice of psychology. This has been achieved via the wide range of activities we undertake. We set educational standards and offer advice and support to institutions on the quality of their degree courses; we publish internationally renowned journals, our monthly in-house magazine, The Psychologist, books, and much more besides.
Our Psychological Testing Centre is the leading national centre for all matters relating to psychological testing and promotes the highest standards.
We understand the importance of maintaining a comprehensive archive of psychology materials for use by members and the public via our History of Psychology Centre.
We offer a diverse range of conferences to meet our member’s needs; with our specific member networks offering more focused services and collegial activity. The Learning Centre is the Society’s training and development portal. It provides learning and CPD opportunities for members. These include an annual workshop programme, e-Learning courses, and the myCPD system
We promote the discipline through our press centre, marketing and parliamentary activities and work with other learned societies on a wide range of joint activities. We participate in important international forums with the aim of promoting and growing psychology worldwide (some 5,000 of our members live and work overseas).
Our website is pivotal in helping us to achieve our goals of serving members, the public and the discipline. It is our shop window and a repository of information about the Society and psychology in general. We are constantly seeking to improve and expand our content, so we welcome ideas from users for further improvement.
Oh, and if you are not yet a member, why not consider joining us. Take a look at our benefits of membership. You will be most welcome!
