Chartered member (CPsychol)
Our chartered membership reflects the highest standard of psychological knowledge and expertise. It is our gold standard, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and high ethical standards of practice, teaching and research. Our chartered members are entitled to use the designation 'CPsychol'.

Eligibility
Route 1 - Traditional
UK applicants must:
Achieve at least 2:2 on an undergraduate honours degree recognised by the Society as meeting Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC); or complete a Society-accredited conversion qualification and then:
- undertake Society-accredited postgraduate qualifications and training, or
- complete a research doctorate in psychology;
If you hold a research doctorate in psychology, you may not have achieved GBC from your undergraduate degree. If this is the case, please refer to the Society’s special case criteria for graduate membership with GBC.
Non-UK applicants must:
- hold a qualification, or a combination of qualifications, that makes you eligible for GBC. Degrees from outside the UK are assessed on an individual basis.
- hold an additional postgraduate qualification in psychology that is at least an equivalent to a UK masters degree.
- have relevant supervised training and experience equivalent to UK professional doctorate level.
Route 2 - Teaching and research
UK and non-UK applicants must:
- be eligible for GBC
- have appropriate postgraduate training and experience of teaching psychology.
Applications for chartered membership via this route are assessed individually.

Process
UK applicants:
- download and complete the appropriate application form and send it to the address below with the following items;
- photocopy of degree certificates. If you are not a Graduate Member, you will need to supply photocopies of your undergraduate degree certificate and transcript;
- provide two proposers that are chartered members of the Society;
- application and subscription payment.
Non-UK applicants:
- download and complete the appropriate application form and send it to the address below with the following items;
- photocopy of degree certificates. If you are not a Graduate Member, you will need to supply photocopies of your undergraduate degree certificate and transcript;
- provide two proposers. These do not need to be chartered members, but an equivalent (e.g. line manager or lecturer);
- application and subscription payment.
Note: you may also be asked for your CV.
