PPG Terms of Reference

(NB the name of this group may be subject to change.)

Responsibilities

  1. To provide policy overview and strategic priorities guidance for the Society’s parliamentary functions.
  2. To provide any necessary guidance to the Policy Support Unit (PSU) on issues raised in connection with the implementation of the PSU’s process and protocol.
  3. To consider the development of a system to evaluate the work of this Group via an annual review of its activities and to report the outcome to the Publications and Communications Board and onwards to other relevant parts of the Society.
  4. To receive regular reports from the Parliamentary Officer; the PSU Manager; and, other appropriate staff.
  5. To provide regular reports to the Publications and Communications Board as required.
  6. The Group will meet as required, but not less than three times a year, either face-to-face or by teleconference.

Member responsibilities

All members of the Group will be expected to fully participate in the business of the Group. Members will be expected to garner information from their ‘constituency’ so as to ensure that policy guidance is optimal.
Each member will be expected to engage in two-way communications between the Group and their parent body.
Each member will be expected to provide reasonable support to appropriate staff engaged in these areas.

A representative of the three national branches (3):

  • N. Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Wales

  • P&C Directorate Manager
  • Parliamentary Officer (Joint Secretary)
  • Policy Support Unit Manager (Joint Secretary)
  • A Lay 'user' nominated by POST (Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology)
  • The Policy Officer (Scotland)
  • Other staff as appropriate
