Parliamentary Office

The Society works with Government Departments on relevant legislation and regularly submits evidence to Select Committee enquiries. The Parliamentary Office and the Research Board work together to manage the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) Fellowship programme; and briefings (POST notes) on various subjects have been published. The Parliamentary Office monitors proposed legislation and policy and works with partners inside and outside Parliament.

The Parliamentary Office is made up of the Parliamentary Representative and the Parliamentary Officer.

The Parliamentary Representative is a member of the Society who sits on the Publications and Communications Board. Requests from members for assistance or advice from the Parliamentary Office should be sent to the Parliamentary Representative via one of the Boards or subsystems of the Society. The current Parliamentary Representative is Professor Theresa Marteau.


The Parliamentary Officer is a member of staff who advises the Society on Parliamentary issues, ensures that information from Parliamentary systems is appropriately communicated within the Society, and implements the Society's agreed strategic and policy decisions. The Parliamentary Officer is Dr Ana Padilla.
