Guidelines on Memory and the Law: Recommendations from the Scientific Study of Human Memory - Revised April 2010

Memory and the Law Revised Report April 2010

The guidelines provide straightforward accounts of scientific findings and thinking about the nature of memory and memories to those who have to make judgements on memory evidence in criminal and civil proceedings.

The revised April 2010 version replaces the original Report which was published in 2008. The amendments to the Report focus primarily on Section 2vi and the definition of a memory expert witness.

There are sections on legal and psychological considerations, vulnerable groups, memory, trauma and stress, witness interviews and statements and identification parades. Each section provides an overview of the relevant evidence and also provides recommended reading and technical references for those who wish to follow up on any points.
