Social Inclusion
Welcome to the Professional Practice Board's resource on Social Inclusion.
Since the creation of the Social Exclusion Unit in 1997 policy on reducing social exclusion and the implementation of a variety of programmes to increase social inclusion have had a high public profile in ways that years before no-one working in this field could have dreamed of. For applied psychologists this has been a welcome development with a wide variety of practitioners taking up roles within these programmes.
Please have a look around the contents of these pages and feel free to send in relevant documents (ppbchair@bps.org.uk), useful web-links and other materials including events, books, working groups to link to and relevant articles for posting. An ever growing collection of resources in one place will be a useful addition to the Society’s knowledge services and should enable increased transfer of understanding across the many fields of work involved in promoting social inclusion.
Social Inclusion Seminar October 2008 - 'Social Inclusion Lens'
Following last year’s successful Social Inclusion Seminar, The Professional Practice Board is sponsoring its second Social Inclusion Seminar entitled "Social Inclusion Lens"
As the prosperity and wellbeing of the majority of people in this country continues to rise, there remains a persistent minority who, for a plethora of interconnected reasons, get left behind - such as deeply excluded families, offenders and the unemployed. What more can be done to help these most excluded members of our population?
This will be addressed through the development of work streams concentrating on Families, Work and Prisons.
The seminar is designed to enable the Society to move forwards on developing its' objectives and strategy in the three work streams to support current policy initiatives and will also give an ideal opportunity for updates on Government and Society work in the area of Social Inclusion.
Attendance is free of charge with lunch provided. All we ask is that you make arrangements to fund your own travel expenses/accommodation.
To reserve a place or seek further information, please contact ZoĆ« Mudie at the Society’s Leicester office (e-mail: zoe.mudie@bps.org.uk)

Events
A major concern for Acas is Health and Wellbeing at work and the increasing levels of sickness and absence in relation to mental health and stress. As a result, Acas is working with the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health to develop and deliver a half-day training event to help manage mental health in the workplace.
