Hello I am Justin Walker and I’m pleased to introduce myself as the Past-Chair of the SMG. I am 23 years old and was born and bred in Birmingham. I now live in London and am in my 3rd year of a Psychology degree at London Southbank University. I like to think of myself as an approachable, friendly and reliable guy and I am keen to learn and meet new faces. In my spare time I enjoy socializing, music, reading and travelling (when I can afford it!). I look forward to continuing to be part of the SMG Committee.

Psych-Talk Editor: Helen Galliard (helengalliard@hotmail.co.uk)

I am the Editor for PsychTalk and look forward to reading your article submissions! Send me something - not only will it give you the opportunity to polish up your writing skills, it will look great on your CV! I am currently working towards a BSc (Honours) in psychology at The Open University. I also work in publishing and volunteer with people who have mental health issues. I am interested in all aspects of psychology, but specifically autism, language and gender. I am a yoga teacher, and love yoga as it helps me to relax in between working, studying and volunteering.

International Officer: Colin Morgan (chiveroni@googlemail.com)

Hello everyone, I've recently been elected as your International Officer. I'm very happy to take this role and build on the excellent work performed by Rebecca. My main function is to liaise with the the other student committee of European psychological societies and help any students that wish to travel abroad to study, meet other students and attend psychology events and conferences. Please do not hesitate to contact me for help, advice and information.

My purpose as International Officer is to link the SMG with other student associations across Europe through the European Federation of Psychology Students Associations (EFPSA). The main event is the EFPSA Conference which will be held in Holland in April 2010. The SMG actually funds a number of students to go there so if you are interested please contact me for more information about the congress and how to register or alternatively you can register online at www.efpsa.org. If you have any other questions regarding EFPSA and its opportunities please email me and I will be happy to help.

Representative for Scotland: Jenny Turner (rat_bags@hotmail.com)

Hi, my name is Jenny Turner and I am the newly elected representative for Scotland. I am currently half way through a post-graduate conversion course at the University of Glasgow. When I graduate I will have obtained the Graduate Basis for Registration and hope to secure a job as an assistant psychologist. In the long-term I would like to apply to a doctorate programme in clinical psychology, but need to build up a bit of experience first! I am originally from Middlesbrough but have lived in Glasgow now for 9 years and am proud to be the Scottish representative! The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that the SMG Committee is more representative of its membership throughout Scotland. I can also provide students with a point of contact within Scotland so if you have any queries, or issues you would like me to bring up at the next SMG meeting please do not hesitate to contact me!

Representative for Wales: Maria Routley (mlroutley1@hotmail.co.uk)

Hi I'm Maria and I’m the new SMG representative for Wales. I'm in my second year studying psychology as UWIC. My role within the committee is to ensure Welsh members are represented and feel they can express their views within the psychology community. So feel free to drop me an email! My responsibilities include liaising with the Welsh branch of the BPS and involved in the organisation of SMG events such as the annual conference.

General Members

Rachel Smith (rachel_c_smith@hotmail.com)
I am currently in the 2nd year of my BSc (Hons) in Psychology at London Metropolitan University and although all areas of Psychology interest me, it is Forensic Psychology that I hope to specialise in. I have always had an interest in this area and my previous work for Essex Police gave me the incentive to study Psychology full time. I also have a love of the theatre so I combine this with my part time work as an HR Assistant at a theatre in the West End of London. I am a general member of the SMG as I wish to assist in all areas, so if you have any ideas, thoughts or queries regarding the SMG, then please contact me and I will voice your opinions and ensure I respond to you ASAP!

Kayleigh Parker (Kayleigh.Parker@uwe.ac.uk)
I’m a general member for the SMG committee. I assist other members of the committee and help wherever help is needed. I’m going into my second year studying towards BSc in Psychology at UWE. I am particularly interested in working with people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I’m a huge rugby fan and follow Bristol rugby (for whom I also work) and England rugby.

Nicole Howard (haynic14@hotmail.com)
It is a privilege to be a representative on the SMG committee; I believe it’s important that students across the country get a voice. I have a passionate interest in psychology since studying it at A-level and now undertaking a 4 year Bsc course. I have recently participated in a 6 month research project with Professor Michael Wright on perception and attention in sport and presented a report to the University. I have gained significant experience in the use of FMRI, EEG and software packages SPM2, SPM5, MATLAB and SPSS and am particularly interested in neuropsychology in the areas of schizophrenia, Parkinson’s and depression.
