Research is identified as one of the core functions of Educational Psychologists working in Scotland; Review of the provision of Eduational Psychology Services in Scotland (Currie), 2000.

The SDEP aims to use this section to provide a means by which Educational Psychologists in Scotland can share research within the profession.

SDEP Funding for Research

Grants are available for SDEP members to support continuing professional development within Educational Psychology in Scotland and to promote the activities of the SDEP. SDEP grants will be capped at £500 for individual requests and £1000 for groups. Larger grants may be considered dependent on circumstances.

It is envisaged that SDEP funds will be used for grants to support research and development that would benefit the aims of the SDEP. Grants may be made available to support start-up courses or conferences that would be of interest to SDEP members and to support activities that improve networking between SDEP members. Individual SDEP members presenting papers at conferences may also be eligible for a grant. Grants will not be approved where a request is seen to replace individual or Service CPD budgets.

  • Only SDEP members can apply. Group activities such as conferences should prioritise SDEP membership.
  • Only one grant will be awarded to any individual/group in each financial year.
  • Requests should offer clear benefits to the Division and its membership.
  • A written report for the SDEP Executive Committee will normally be required. Other methods of disseminating results to the wider SDEP membership should also be deployed.
  • New developments will be particularly encouraged.
  • The SDEP does not accept any liability for any additional costs accrued as part of a successful bid.
  • Receipts and/or return of unused funds will be required for auditing purposes.

Applications should be made using the following form SDEP application for funding.pdf which should be sent to the SDEP Executive Committee Chair (jean.campbell@slcpsych.org.uk). Applications will be considered at Executive meetings. The Executive meets in February, May, August and November each year. In order to facilitate this process, applications should be received well in advance of these meetings in electronic format. These can then be circulated prior to the meeting and ratified at the meeting, should the proposal meet the criteria. Applicants should receive a response shortly after the Executive has met.
