Results are in: kick start your career in psychology

Like thousands of students across the country, you have just received your A level results. For many these are a stepping stone to university life and a career in psychology.

So what do you need to be aware of?  

First of all, if you are interested in a career in psychology make sure you have applied for a Society accredited undergraduate degree. That way your degree will give you eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). This is an entry requirement for Society accredited postgraduate training courses  and is also required if you want to work towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

If you haven’t applied for a Society accredited undergraduate degree, don’t panic!

Once you have completed your course you will be eligible to apply for a conversion course. Conversion courses are designed for graduates with a non-accredited undergraduate degree who want to obtain GBC.

Having finished your degree, you may find that the competition for postgraduate training programmes are fierce. Keep ahead of the game by gaining as much work experience as you can.  Work experience has many benefits as it’s an excellent way to gain practical insight into psychology and gives you the opportunity to learn new skills.

It is best to consider what area of psychology you want to go into before applying for work experience. Take a look at the different types of psychology to help you make that decision.
