Undergraduate and Postgraduate Prizes in Psychology of Sexualities 2009

The Psychology of Sexualities Section of the BPS will award two prizes in 2009:

  • one for the best undergraduate essay or project in an aspect of psychology of sexualities
  • one for the best postgraduate essay or dissertation in aspect of psychology of sexualities.

Submissions must relate to the Psychology of Sexuality. For a thesis avoid attaching appendices. A briefer section on methods and methodology may be needed and this is acceptable. Most of the social science journals contain advice on their homepage that could provide guidance.

Postgraduate and undergraduate students registered at a University worldwide who receive their degrees in either 2008 or 2009 are eligible to apply. Students need not be members of the BPS, or members of the Psychology of Sexualities Section in order to apply. In any year, a submission can only be made for one category.

Winners of each prize will receive:

  • A cash sum of £75 for undergraduate entries and £125 for post-graduate entries
  • A prize-winner's certificate
  • Either a year's free membership of the Psychology of Sexualities Section or a year's free subscription to the Psychology of Sexualities Review

Winners based in the U.K. will also be supported to travel to the Section's AGM in 2010 to receive their certificates.

To apply for the prize you will need to submit a copy of your entry by email (word or PDF format) to the email address below.

All entries must be received by midday on Tuesday 1st September 2009. In the email please include:

  • Your name, address and a contact email (please remember that the outcome will be announced later in the year so the email address needs to be valid at this time).
  • The prize you are applying for
  • The title of your submission
  • Details of your university, the year you completed your course and if relevant the name of your supervisor(S)

Note: The winning entries may be published in the section journal and prizes are contingent on this. Assistance will be provided from the journal editors to assist with preparing a version for publication. Furthermore, the winners’ names and the titles of their entry will be published on this website. It should therefore be noted that by submission of an entry you are agreeing to the publication of your entry and to your name appearing on the section’s website (if selected as a winner).

All entries are to be submitted Damien Fitzgerald, Faculty of Development and Society, Sheffield Hallam University, d.fitzgerald@shu.ac.uk
